In Finding the Mother Tree: Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest, tree ecologist, Suzanne Simard has brought our attention to the mycorrhizal fungi networks that allow trees to communicate. In particular, she studied "hub"or "mother" trees that are the largest and oldest trees in a forest that supply fungi and other nutrients to younger trees around them thus giving them support as they grow. Humans also do not survive outside of support networks. Whoever provides this "mothering" in a young child’s life is important even though it may go unnoticed or unobserved.
